This page is in the process of being developed. Abuari is a beautiful village overlooking the Eora Creek valley. Just below the village is a spectacular waterfall. Across the valley is the village of Alola and in the distance the Isurava Memorial site. A feature of a visit to Abuari is the low swirling cloud that wends its way up the valley and engulfs the village.
Most groups trekking the Kokoda Track miss out on this visiting this beautiful village. The slight detour is well worth the effort. Those trekking south need to take the steep descent from the village of Alola to the Eora creek then undertake the big climb up the other side to Abuari. Once in Abuari Naden Lovei will ensure you are well cared for and accommodated. The Rotary Club of Tumbarumba have assisted in the building of the first aid post and nearby is the small school house. After a small period of closure the school now has Leanne looking after the local kids. There are a two small huts containing artifacts from the war, they are well worth the look. Most visitors to Abuari spend the afternoon sitting on the grass near the top of the village watching the ever changing vista down the valley before enjoying a feast prepared by the local women. Trekkers leave Abuari through their magnificent gardens (including giant German taro) before heading into a dark and gloomy jungle. This track meets the main track at the Eora Creek Campsite. This also a beautiful location - with a great swimming spot in the side creek and the site of a Japanese Mountain Gun towering above. (those trekking north reverse the above description).
